Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a service dog, emotional support animal (ESA), and therapy dog?
Service dogs are specially trained to perform tasks that assist individuals with disabilities. They have public access rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Emotional support animals (ESAs) provide comfort and companionship to their owners but do not have specific task training. They do not have public access rights but may be allowed in housing under the Fair Housing Act.
Therapy dogs are trained to provide comfort to groups of people in settings like hospitals, schools, and nursing homes. They do not have public access rights but are welcomed in facilities with permission.
Do you specialize in one type of service dog?
Yes! Infinite Possibilities specializes in training service dogs for individuals with psychiatric, intellectual, and neurodevelopmental disabilities, including autism, PTSD, anxiety, OCD, and others.
Can I get a fully trained assistance dog from Infinite Possibilities?
Yes, we offer trained assistance dogs through our Lana’s Legacy Trained Assistance Dogs Program. We focus on adopting rescue puppies and young adult dogs, training them for several types of assistance work, and placing them with individuals who need them.
Do you only work with specific breeds?
No, we do not limit our training to specific breeds. However, service dogs must meet certain temperament and health requirements. We evaluate dogs on an individual basis to ensure they are suitable for service work.
Do you train pet dogs for non-assistance work?
Yes! While our main focus is on assistance dogs, we do offer group training classes for pet dogs on occasion. These may include basic obedience, manners, and enrichment activities. Keep an eye on our website or social media for upcoming class offerings!
Are donations to Infinite Possibilities tax-deductible?
Yes! Infinite Possibilities Animals Inc. is a registered nonprofit, and donations are tax-deductible.
At what age can I start my dog in assistance dog training?
For service dogs, training can begin as early as 8 weeks old and as old as 4 years. Therapy dog training can typically start as early as 5 months of age, but age requirements can vary depending on the individual dog’s temperament and development. There is not an age limit on training a therapy dog and we welcome healthy dogs of all ages to join our program.
